A place to show what ever I decide to show. Don't know just yet what that will be!
Hi all,

OK, ever since I loaded up this cool suite (WindowBlinds, the full on version) I have managed to get loaded what I think is the best for my needs. In time though a few undesirable things have happened and if anyone has any fixes or advice please let me know.

1) In my C:/ drive, in Thumbnail view I have NO text under the thumbnails all of a sudden. This the same in Program Files folder as well. NO OTHER FOLDER is this the case though. ALL OTHER FOLDERS displayed in Thumbnail view show text under each TN!! What do you suppose this is caused by and how do I fix this?

2) I run some 3D apps as a hobby. I'm very very involved with beta testing and creating freebies for the DAZ Community and it seems that ever since I installed this software DAZ Studio has become unusable since the rendering engine (3Delight) needs a program called tdlmake.exe. It's not running and will not run for what ever reason. I have tried everything:

1- Defraged the system
2- Ran chkdsk
3- Unloaded and even uninstalled Windowblinds
4- Tried installing Studio into a newly named directory to try to point it differently
5- Cleaned the registry out

Nothing I have done get Studio to render an image for me. I even created a new instance in my Firewall software giving tdlmake.exe permission to send and receive and that did nothing to improve things.

3- I uninstalled WindowBlinds but all the other programs were left behind.... I still have Object Desktop and all of it's components installed as well as XPBench, SmartException and SDCEndtral and I don't see any way to uninstall them!

I have ObjectDock full version installed but I like that one the most and I really don't see how that could be doing anything to the system.

Please if you have any advice or suggestions or help to offer, please please post.

Thank you

So even with WB uninstalled - DAZ won't work right?

Not sure what happens (for all the apps) when the various trials run out

Generally when a particular app won't run with these products running = it's a conflict with WB and skinning... not all apps like to be skinned and some throw a hissy fit and refuse to play at all.

Windowblinds configuration > change the look of a particular application > add per application setting > browse to the tdlmake.exe and add it to be excluded from skinning.

I uninstalled WindowBlinds but all the other programs were left behind.... I still have Object Desktop and all of it's components installed as well as XPBench, SmartException and SDCEndtral and I don't see any way to uninstall them!

Save the unistallation of SDCentral for last -

open SDCentral - right click on an application in the list and choose uninstall - may be wise to do them one at a time and reboot when asked. XP Bench and Smart Exception are under MISC on the left in SDC.

Add/Remove programs - SDCentral is in there

Thanks for you suggestions. I figured all that out but I still have no text under my icons and ALL of Windowblinds is un installed. Now the C:/ drive icon is one of those generic icons when the system doesn't have one to assign to it. Since it's a drive icon I don't seem to be able to right click and tell it where to look for it's default icon. So all sub folders under the C drive now have NO text when Thumbnail view is selected (which I prefer with my sight issues)

On top of it, now this is a strange thing. I decided it was time for a fresh installation of Windows. OK so I create a slipstreamed version to have SP2 blended into WinXP Pro disk, that worked just fine! So then I reboot with the disk in the drive and up comes the dialog to repair or freshly install Windows..... well now I have 2 versions of Windows. It didn't overwrite the old version, it saw the other partition with all my art stuff on it and wrote a new version of Windows there. I'm not sure how this is possible but I guess it is. On the drive I have a normally displayed C:/ drive with all sub folders displaying text in Thumbnail view. Booted into this one and same issues I was having before. Strange, very very strange and kinda funny actually. I still have a fully functional Windows and a new Windows installation with none of the quirks and needing some TLC or a way to delete it without deleting all my art files. Windows on the D:/ drive is not something I prefer. It's not "normal" to me so I think I'll have to start over again. If I can get rid of it somehow then I'd prefer to do that *IF* I can repair this version that's all messed up from WB's being here.

I figured out what caused this strangeness with the C:/ drive folders. When I was using IconPackager and then wanted to put the default icons back it didn't change the C drive back and it was still displaying the icon that I assigned to it before hand. When I uninstalled it that last left icon was taken out and then I had the generic icon in there and all my text was not being displayed in all the sub folders using Thumbnail view.

Some would say "then don't use that view" I say it's my system and it's a view I prefer so that advice doesn't work for me!

So if I can get this view thing fixed in the first XP installation I'll keep it (maybe) and then I can always use the other installation to boot into when I'm doing art and have a fully functional tdlmake.exe to use. I'll check it out......

Thanks for any other advice you may have for the above crazyness I'm experiencing!! LOL

I got no idea on the text under icons.
